New Products and Treatments at Renew Skin Center!

I recently learned that the top issue my clients are trying to treat for their skin is sensitivity and allergies. That lead me to adding a new skin care line, Hale & Hush. With their roots in oncology cosmeceuticals, Hale & Hush is the only professional skin care line to focus exclusively on sensitive skin. Many brands create products for sensitive skin by simply stripping away all active ingredients. Hale & Hush strategically uses superior herbal and botanical ingredients to leave skin soothed, balanced and strengthened. Have an allergy? Their products are free of gluten, sulfates, parabens, artificial scents and many other allergens.

As always, our skin treatments are all inclusive and customized to your skin, so Hale and Hush products will be incorporated into your Renew Skin Treatment when needed. Of course, if you’d especially like to try Hale & Hush products, you can certainly ask!

I’ve also recently added what might be my favorite skin care device ever: the Rezenerate pen! Rezenerate uses nanotechnology to drastically reduce fine lines and leaves your skin looking and feeling younger. I’ve also seen great improvements in clearing skin of breakouts while minimizing pore size and scarring. The Rezenerate pen painlessly creates hundreds of thousands of microscopic permeations on the surface of the skin, leading to an immediate plumpness. It also allows for greater absorption of nutrients introduced during the facial. This treatment is customized for each client and is truly relaxing! A fabulous choice for someone who wants a truly corrective treatment without any discomfort or downtime.

Also, coming soon, spa services to treat the body with Island Therapy featuring Coconut, mango, and pineapple!

Looking forward to sharing all these new treats with you!

You Might Be Missing an Important Part of Your Self Care

Healthy Eating Tips

Since we absolutely are what we eat, there is no way we can talk about self-care without talking about food! It is my belief that there isn't one diet or plan that is right for everyone. We each should focus on figuring out what our bodies need for ourselves. I think every eating plan out there agrees on at least this one thing: our bodies need vitamins, minerals, protein, and essential fats. How you choose to get them is up to you, but here's a few tips:

  • Greens, the more greens the better! They have calcium, zinc, magnesium, and iron. (I try to make every day a Green Smoothie Day!)

  • Eat regularly, skipping meals doesn't help your metabolism.

  • Eat breakfast soon after getting up.

  • Eat all the colors of fruits and veggies, organic if possible or wash thoroughly. Nobody needs to eat pesticides.

  • Follow the 80/20 rule: 80 percent really good stuff, then don't stress out about the other 20 percent. More good stuff in, less bad stuff in!

  • Enjoy your food and be thankful for it!

  • It's OK to go in increments, and upgrade your nutrition in steps. make a healthier choice and another and another.

  • I feel best when eating light and fresh! I do eat meat, but try for only once per day.

Green Smoothies

Some of the benefits of Green Smoothies are:

  • Whole food nutrition from the fruits and veggies  you choose, better than juice because you get fiber as well.

  • You can get your veggies in without even noticing the taste of the veggies since they are covered by the flavors of the fruit.

  • They are easy and inexpensive to make with a few basic ingredients and a blender.

  • Since they have fruits and veggies, green smoothies give you longer lasting energy than just eating fruit.

  • Green smoothies are low calorie, filling and hydrating

So let's get started! You will need:

  1. Greens - baby spinach (best for beginners), or juicing greens" mix, kale, turnip greens

  2. Fruit - I always use at least half a banana for sweetness, berries, pineapple, apple, peaches, mango, etc... Frozen fruit is fine for the convenience factor and to make it nice and cold.

  3. Liquid - milk (almond is my favorite but coconut and cashew are other options), juice, or water

  4. A blender or Ninja

  5. Optional - protein powder, yogurt, oats to be more filling, or a superfood like Spirulina

I use 1 cup of greens, half a banana, 1 cup of other fruit, cover with liquid and blend on high until smooth.  Enjoy!

Why We Need Client Information Forms for Skincare Services

It might just seem like more form-filling to you but there are plenty of reasons why we will always ask you to complete one of our Client Information Forms or consultation forms if you're coming to us for the first time, and in some cases if you're having a new treatment with us.

It's important that we have a completed intake from you so that we can make sure your treatments are not just effective, but also safe and suitable for you.

First of all, we need to know a bit about your overall health, including any medications you're currently taking. This is important because some products we use could interact with medication (we wouldn't be able to use some types of facials on a client who is taking medication for acne because of increased sensitivity for example). Other conditions might make some types of treatment inadvisable.

If you're pregnant we also need to know - some treatments aren't advised due to possible risk to the fetus and even natural products like some essential oils aren't advised for women during pregnancy.

We're in the business of making you look good so we need to know what we are working with! If you suffer with any rashes, allergies or skin complaints, please tell us so that we can make sure we don't use any products that might irritate your skin even more. We can also factor that into your treatment plan as an issue to address.

We'll ask you questions about your skin type so that we can make the recommendations for your treatment plan, and home care products too. Knowing that your skin is sensitive will help us to avoid products that could cause a reaction, and if we that  know you have oily/dry/combination skin we can treat accordingly.

Some people like to treat themselves to a facial just to relax and treat themselves while others have specific concerns that they want to treat, like wrinkles and fine lines, dark circles, acne or rosacea. If you can tell us as much as possible about your desires, we can formulate a plan and choose the best products to help you get the skincare you really want from us.

We might ask you questions about your lifestyle too. this is just to get an overall idea of how you are and whether realistically you're going to be able to make any changes. If you lead a very stressful lifestyle, juggling work, kids and more, and barely have time for yourself, we'll take a look at homecare products for you that are quick and easy rather than a complicated regimen. it's all about you!

We'll also make some gentle recommendations about ways to improve your skin through making minor changes. We can advise you on SPF skincare based on your answers, and give you tips to boost the effects of the facial or treatments you're having.

The questions we ask you on our Client Intake Form are there for both your therapist and you, and provide valuable information we need to make sure that we tailor any treatments to your needs. We really appreciate you taking the time to fill them out honestly and in detail.

To save time when you come into your appointment, we offer online forms that are filled out when you book online here.

How Renew Skin Center Came to Be

As someone who's been in the spa and skin care industry for over 10 years I've seen a lot of changes in how day spas and med spas operate. While some of those changes have been great for both spa therapists and their clients, especially the advances in technology, I find some of it disagreeable.

The main trends in recent years have been towards treatments that are either cookie-cutter, where everybody gets the exact same service no matter what, or strictly clinical with little to no focus on the relaxation benefits of receiving a spa service.

Skin treatments, or any spa service for that matter, should always be customized. Nobody's skin is the exact same; what may be a perfect treatment for one person, could be detrimental to someone else's skin.

Everyone experiences stress, and stress can affect nearly every body part and body system, including the skin. Stress is a factor in five out of six leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, stroke, lower respiratory disease, and accidents. An estimated 75 to 90 percent of all doctor visits are for issues in that are in some way attributable to stress.

While spas shouldn't be seen as for pampering only, it's so easy to make the services relaxing and stress relieving that I feel it should always be an important part of a spa treatment. It can often be the most anti-aging thing we offer at the spa.

Renew Skin Center's Treatment's were designed to focus on treating your skin concerns while you get time to relax. We are continually working to improve the ways we reduce our clients’ stress, renew their skin, and encourage their wellness during and in between visits so they feel their best.

Since these treatments are all-inclusive, whatever your skin needs, is what your skin will receive. No two people's treatments are the same, and often no person will get the exact same treatment twice.

And why name ourselves Renew? Well, it's the best word to describe what we do.

  • We renew our clients’ skin by always giving the best treatment protocol for their skin, every time.

  • We renew their confidence by revealing visibly better skin

  • We renew their mental well-being by making the experience as relaxing and stress free as possible

We hope you will come see us soon, and let us Renew your skin!
